I'm in the camp that we'll get less of a benefit from CR viz a viz other animal models as we live longer which I take as prima facie evidence that many of the pathways that could be better tuned already are.

However, I think CR is good for cutting down on various imflammatory diseases. But to be effective, life has to suck.

FWIW, I saw an interesting note that after you hit 80 (average), your odds of getting cancer levels off (i.e., your probability of getting cancer stops increasing with age - doesn't go down, but doesn't increase).

On a related note: I went into a Subway this morning, because I had a stomache ache,
and just asked for bread.* I couldn't eat anything else and didn't have any in the house
they didn't know what to charge me. So they just gave me bread for free.

Funny country this is, where they give away bread, but charge $2 for sugar water (and even for plain bottled water that probably came out of a public water supply).

*I know that sentence could make me look like a panhandler if Subway were read as "public transportation". But it just so happens that there is a Subway restaurant in my apartment complex and its the only place within 5 minutes walk to get bread.

Although you have some fair points, there was quite a bit of diabetes, but monkeys are very suceptible to it, compared with humans. What I think should have happened is the ad lib monkeys restricted a bit more, and the CR monkeys restricted even more than they were.

As for human results, I've been doing CR for a long time and found many benefits, especially in my lab work, and I look much younger too.

CR in humans has been shown to totally prevent diabetes, virutally no risk of heart disease, heart function that is 15 years younger than the CRers age, all the markers of longevity (extreme insulin sensitivity, low temperature, low thyroid etc...) So to say there is no benefit to CR in humans is totally wrong. Please check out 'important studies' on the side of my blog (i have put in my website link).

It's likely that we would get far more benefit than monkeys in my opinon, simply beceause we know more about human nutrition and have generally a better diet than these monkeys were given. However the monkeys were given the exact same diet so there is no other factors involved (like various polyphenols from plants which are protective).

We still don't know yet though if CR actually extends maxmium lifespan, this will be the most interesting thing.

Hope you check out my blog!

Thanks
