This article reminded me of the chapter in Freakanomics that talks about naming kids, race and socioeconomic success. And there have been a boatload of older studies about resumes with distinctly black names not getting callbacks for interviews. So, imagine if Obama was only able to submit his resume (which is admittedly thin) and never be seen. He wouldn’t have been able to use his superior marketing, organizational efforts and silver tongue to get elected. Also, we never would’ve known he was a light skinned black and not a dark skinned black. (Btw, I never realized until now that that was Julian Bond interviewing Garret Morris in that skit.) Most voters would’ve only seen his resume and recoiled at his decidedly African and Arabic name. But in reality, nobody did that…

RZA: it’s prolly better
yeah
E-dawg: hey
9:11 PM I missed the first few mins
so is it all going to be domestic?
RZA: no
this is foreign policy one
E-dawg: good
RZA: is foreign
9:12 PM E-dawg: what’s with this moderator?
RZA: lol
E-dawg: I know who he is
RZA: really
9:13 PM E-dawg: I just mean, why is he telling O to talk to McC
RZA: yeah
9:17 PM they will talk about money
E-dawg: yeah, O is spouting too many figures
RZA: for 20 minutes prolly
and then talk about bomb bomb bomb iran
well
E-dawg: McC is talking in slogans and colorful images
i.e. McC is “winning”
RZA: that is so that people say he is too vauge
can’s say it anymore
word
O needs to get emotional
9:18 PM E-dawg: yeah, being specific
isn’t any good if people can’t process the specifics
RZA: man
hearing these guys
Palin is gonna be toast
E-dawg: dude
RZA: back shot of MC
9:19 PM E-dawg: McC said “Ms. Congeniality”
RZA: i didn’t see a backpack
haven’t seen O’s back
yes
E-dawg: so far
just listening to the speaking styles, not the content
RZA: PBS has such shitty video quality
E-dawg: McC has better flow and cadence
really
let me try another channel
9:20 PM RZA: O’s tie is vibrating
cuz of the cam. resoluaiont
rez
lehrer is acting like a marriage counselour
this is hilarous
“respond to him directly!”
E-dawg: yeah, it’s weird
9:21 PM RZA: i like it
adds to the comedy
The Revolution Will Be Comedified!
E-dawg: I have some other stuff to do
I will wander back
RZA: 2000 what?
E-dawg: he’s not doing well, so far
+
RZA: how is he getting slaughtered?
9:23 PM E-dawg: slaughtered is an exaggeration
RZA: dude, it’s all about whichever 2 soundbites
make it out into the AP articles
tbone is playing poker
disregard him
E-dawg: hah
RZA: 9:23
9:24 PM E-dawg: McC overrode moderator
RZA: walking the walk
talking the talk
points to MC
for taking charge
I”M VOTING FOR MCCAIN!!!!
O interrupted with aside
but i didn’t ehar it
MC up by a touchdown!
MC has a weird tie on
9:25 PM E-dawg: I dont’ get it
RZA: but O’s has that weird moire pattern
lehrer
is lvoing this
cuz now they are mixing it up
E-dawg: why isn’t Obama bringing up McC’s record
RZA: that’s why he let MC railroad him
E-dawg: guy’s been in the senate for 20 years
RZA: yes
E-dawg: one of the keating 5 for god’s sake
9:29 PM E-dawg: how the hell could Obama have the most liberal voting record
RZA: NO TO ETHANOL SUBSIDIES!!!
E-dawg: more liberal than Kennedy?
RZA: he was for 2006
but in 2007
he went way center
it’s on e-v.com
E-dawg: yeah, well it’s subjective to some extent
RZA: 9:29
9:30 PM it’s those diff. rating orgs
and they avg them
yes, very subj
but it’s a metric
of some sort
and correlates well
with CW
conv. wisdowm
9:31 PM lehrer is pissed
he wants specifics
E-dawg: why the hell does O keep saying “John’s right!”
RZA: first time O says “john’s right”
oh
E-dawg: no, at least the 2nd
RZA: guess not first time
E-dawg: maybe not that exact word
but I think I heard it before
anyway, he’s coming off as way less aggressive
9:32 PM RZA: “wildly liberal”
E-dawg: maybe that’s bad
or maybe good
RZA: well
we don’t want angry black man
E-dawg: yeah, it cuts both ways, definitely
tbone pikkens: google for govt
tbone pikkens: mcbrain
RZA: first FREEZE mention!!!!
tbone pikkens: what an idiot
E-dawg: and entitlements
RZA: lol
E-dawg: and something else which I forget
or didn’t hear
RZA: “hatchet instead of scalpel”
that was a great line
E-dawg: that was his first decent line
RZA: veterans
yah
E-dawg: “and all that”
RZA: wow
9:34 PM E-dawg: yeah, all those namby pamby liberal alt energy BS thigns
RZA: he rolled off like 6 energy technologies
in about 4 seconds
E-dawg: and dismissed them
RZA: lol
NUCLEAR
NOT NUCULAR
he got it right
E-dawg: cool
got my vote
RZA: points to MC
MC is coming off really good
on an emotional level
E-dawg: yes
RZA: i almost want to vote for him
tbone pikkens: my financial crisis is over
i just won a $20 pot
RZA: but then my brain fires up
9:35 PM lol
nice
E-dawg: yeah, so eliminate that brain
E-dawg: and now you have a cross-section of the American public
RZA: when will the Austrian school come up?
E-dawg: hah
RZA: and mccain can bust out his Hayek knowledge
9:36 PM E-dawg: around the time Hell freezes over?
no one’s going to bring up Austrians
RZA: AHNULD?
E-dawg: well, remember the last time a faltering empire let an Austrian take over
9:37 PM RZA: california?
9:36
those arm movements of mccain
bug me
hate to say it
too bad connie chung isn’t the moderator
MC would let a “gook” slip, you know it
9:38 PM tbone pikkens: ORGY!
RZA: lol
FIRST ORGY MENTION
THE BLACK MAN IS SEXUALLY PREDATORING
iraq
9:38
E-dawg: finally some frickin foreign policy
9:40 PM this is probably the longest time I have ever listened to McC
I can see why he’s gotten as far as he has
9:42 PM RZA: O: “never hestitate”
trying to win over some hawks
9:44 PM first Biden mentoin
E-dawg: I don’t know
maybe it’s just me
RZA: go delaware!
E-dawg: as much as I hate McC
RZA: “senate inside baseball”
E-dawg: he seems to be wiping the floor with Obama
RZA: yeah, obama isn’t as great a debater
as he is a speech giver
E-dawg: Obama seems to be afraid to land a blow
9:45 PM RZA: he going at him now
E-dawg: finally he is
and he stumbled
RZA: shia / sunni mention
E-dawg: he gives an impression of being intimidated
and McC comes across as smug and dismissive
9:46 PM yeah, I remember the Dem debates
Obama was not impressive there either
but it seems that he is even worse here
9:48 PM he is just constantly on the defensive
RZA: i need a beer
yeah
E-dawg: yeah, it’s pretty bad
RZA: beer #2!
9:49 PM on the cnn audience reaction though
they are about even
with maybe MC a slight edge
E-dawg: self selection
more liberals tune in to CNN
RZA: oh
i don’t know how it works
E-dawg: I told you
RZA: i guess it’s on a website
E-dawg: that Obama saying
9:50 PM RZA: u did ?
E-dawg: the surge worked
was a terrible mistkae
I think I told you
anyway I said it to a lot of people
RZA: O is just happy
tbone pikkens: obama is getting crushed
RZA: to move on
E-dawg: now I do agree
tbone pikkens: its getting ugly
RZA: dude
9:51 PM like i said
it’ll be
E-dawg: it’s interesting to see
RZA: the 2-3 soundbites
E-dawg: no matter how bad things get
RZA: that make it into the repititionsphere
E-dawg: the Dems can still lose a debate
RZA: lol
lol
AQ greatest threat??!?!?
9:52 PM how about pakistan or russia or china?
E-dawg: dude, it’s all mythology
RZA: POPPY TRADE!!!!
E-dawg: the Dems have to stick to their mythology
RZA: i know
E-dawg: he knows OBL is dead
or living in a house in Qetta, Pakistan
RZA: i’m waiting for McCain’s out of the box debate move
9:53 PM E-dawg: uhhh
RZA: I”M SUSPENDING THIS DEBATE!!!!
E-dawg: I think it’s time for Obama to make an out of the box move
RZA: obama is too much lawyer at times
mccain is naval aviator
9:54 PM tbone pikkens: this is a blood bath
RZA: lol
ALEXANDER THE GREAT!!!
WAZIRISTAN!!!!
E-dawg: yeah, he got a few words
RZA: man, palin would be blown away
E-dawg: well, she’s going to debate Biden
she can learn a few words under pressure too
RZA: he knows waziristan
don’t front on Biden

E-dawg: well, he’s going to win
9:55 PM I’m just sayin
RZA: he won’t shut up about petraeus
word
E-dawg: just every single question
Obama lets McC set the terms
and is on the defensive
9:56 PM did O put ANY thought into this beforehand
RZA: YES!!!
tbone pikkens: BOOM!
BOOM!
E-dawg: McC right again
tbone pikkens: BOOM!
RZA: sung songs about bombing iran
that is awesome
lol
E-dawg: to us it is
but he has to be way, way more dogged
RZA: i don’t think pbs
uses split screen enough
E-dawg: for people at home
RZA: cnn is aobutl the split
9:57 PM E-dawg: who don’t follow stuff obsessively
to get his point
he’s too understated
ahhh
here we go….
RZA: lol

Hi,

Ned Lamont has won the Democratic primary for Senate in
Connecticut.

Tonight’s results show clearly and overwhelmingly one simple
fact: democracy works. Connecticut came alive with
participation and passion. Together, Democrats decided that
it’s time for a change.

Unfortunately, though, Joe Lieberman has announced his
intention to run as an independent.

We Democrats have a process for choosing our nominee, and we
all ought to respect the outcome.

Joe needs to hear from us. Please send him a message asking
him to respect the voters — we will deliver your note and
post it on our web site:

While not the first U.S. Senator to have a podcast (that distinction belongs to Idaho Sen. Larry Craig, he is the only individual Senator with a podcast tagged on the site with senate. Hopefully, Larry Craig’s constituents will get him tagged properly.
